Our parks, our mission
Protecting the crown jewels of our community
The Charlottesville Parks Foundation collaborates closely with the city's Parks & Recreation Department to bring essential community projects to life.
We raise funds to build and renovate parks, advocate for a robust park system and promote volunteerism to improve the parks.
In a city of our size, few places rival the beauty and functionality of our park system.
However, they now face challenges.
Since the pandemic, the financial demands on our Parks Department have surged, impacting maintenance and essential improvement projects. Budget constraints threaten to hold back our beloved parks, putting vital capital upgrades on pause and delaying routine upkeep. This dilemma is not exclusive to our city, yet our cherished park system risks falling behind.
Our parks are not just green spaces; they are the heart and soul of our community.
These lush havens contribute immensely to our quality of life, offering everything from a breath of fresh air to a sanctuary for connection and wellness.
The benefits of our parks are as diverse as the flora within them. They enhance physical and mental health, foster social bonds, support the natural environment, and even provide economic advantages that ripple throughout our community. Each visit to our parks is a step towards a healthier, happier life.
